About the film
A Romanian film about family, faith and belonging, and the winner of the 2026 Palme d’Or
A Norwegian woman and her devout Romanian husband move with their five children to a remote, close-knit town on the Norwegian coast. Their teenage children quickly bond with a neighboring family, but the Gheorghius’ rigid beliefs soon stir unease in the community.
When allegations of abuse emerge, the family is forced to face a system of judgement. Cristian Mungiu, who first won the Palme d’Or in 2007 with “4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days”, earned his second with this tense drama about where caring for your children ends and control begins.
